VERONICA FUSARO – Intervista alla stella nascente del soul-pop

Ciao Veronica, complimenti per il tuo bellissimo album, come ti sei avvicinata al canto?
Grazie! Ho sempre amato cantare. Ero in cori e gruppi scolastici, ho partecipato ovunque avessi la possibilità di cantare.

Il tuo primo concerto quale è stato?
Il mio primo concerto che ho suonato con le mie canzoni si è svolto in un piccolo pub nella mia città natale, dove praticamente hanno un piccolo palcoscenico nella grotta. Avevo circa 16 anni, immagino. Ma ero stato sul palco prima per esempio per le competizioni di canto.

Ti sei fatta conoscere partecipando a un talent, argomento che è perennemente croce e delizia, che impressione ne hai ricavato tu?
Non mi sono fatta conoscere con il talent. In realtà, non sono nemmeno arrivato alle esibizioni dal vivo. Ho partecipato a questa nuova competizione a Zurigo chiamata Demotape Clinic, e ho vinto la “Demo dell’anno” con una delle mie canzoni. È così che è iniziato davvero, le radio hanno iniziato a suonare le mie canzoni, io ho iniziato a suonare più spettacoli e così via. Lo spettacolo di casting è stato divertente e sicuramente un’esperienza molto interessante per una ragazza di 16 anni.

La dimensione live che importanza ha per te?
Molto importante. Adoro suonare dal vivo. Soprattutto in un mondo così digitale l’esperienza del concerto ha acquisito tanta importanza, è qui che puoi effettivamente vedere le persone dietro i “numeri” che ottieni online.

Ti sei esibita in tutto il mondo, hai ricordi o aneddoti particolari da raccontare? L’esperienza alle olimpiadi coreane come è stata?
Quest’estate ho aperto per Mark Knopfler nell’anfiteatro di Nîmes di fronte a 13’000 persone, è stata un’esperienza davvero fantastica, veramente mozzafiato. Anche lo spettacolo in Corea del Sud è stata indimenticabile, non ero mai stata in Corea prima, nemmeno nel continente asiatico! È davvero incredibile vedere come le persone amino la  musica, anche dall’altra parte del pianeta in una cultura così diversa.

L’unico difetto del tuo disco è di essere solo un EP… dopo tre EP possiamo aspettarci un full lenght?  Programmi futuri?
Hehe, bella domanda… Lascia che ti dica questo: adoro gli album. Ma in questo momento non è il momento giusto nella mia carriera. Ci sarà sicuramente un album.

Sei di origine italiana, ma mi pare che non sei ancora venuta in Italia a esibirti, ci sono speranze di vederti dal vivo?
Sfortunatamente ancora no… però spero di poter suonare il mio debut molto presto! Stiamo parlando di uno spettacolo a Milano, ti terremo aggiornato;)

Hai qualche ascolto che apprezzi in particolare al momento?
Ho appena scoperto questa canzone di Sabrina Claudio intitolata “Truth Is” e mi sono innamorata di me – bellissima canzone!

Hi Veronica, congratulations for your beautiful EP, how did you get closer to singing?
Thank you! I’ve always loved singing. I was in school choirs and school bands, I participated in wherever there was a chance for me to sing.

What were your first concert?
My very first concert that I played with own songs took place in a little pub in my hometown where they have a tiny stage in the cave basically. I was around 16 years old I guess. But I had been on stage before for singing competitions for example.

You made yourself known by participating in a talent, a subject that is perpetually cross and delight, what impression did you get?
I didn’t really get known through the casting show. Actually, I didn’t even make it to the live shows. I ended up winning this newcomer competition in Zürich called Demotape Clinic and won the „Demo of the year“ with one of my own songs. This is how it started really, the radios started playing my songs, I started playing more shows and so on. The casting show was fun and for sure a very interesting experience for a 16 year old, but it didn’t really „make me“ at all.

How important is the live dimension for you?
Very important. I love to play live. Especially in such a digital world the concert experience has gained so much importance, this is where you actually get to see the people behind the „numbers“ that you get online.

Have you performed all over the world, do you have particular memories or anecdotes to tell? The experience at the Korean Olympics how was it?
This summer I got to open for Mark Knopfler in the amphitheater in Nîmes in front of 13’000 people, that was pretty awesome and a breathtaking experience. The show in South Korea was also an unforgettable experience, I had never been to Korea before or even on the Asian continent! It’s really incredible to see how people connect to the music, even on the other side of the planet in such a different culture.

The only flaw of your record is to be just an EP … after three EPs can we expect a full length? Future programs?
Hehe, the good old album question… Let me tell you this: I love albums. But right now it’s just not the right moment in my carreer. There will be an album, for sure.

You are of Italian origin, but it seems to me that you have not yet come to Italy to perform, are there any hopes of seeing you live?
Sfortunatamente ancora no… però spero di poter suonare il mio debut molto presto! We’re currently talking about a show in Milano, we’ll keep you up to date 😉

Do you have any listening you particularly like at the moment?
I just discovered this song by Sabrina Claudio called „Truth Is“ and I kinda fell in love with it – beautiful song
