THE SPIRIT – Intervista a MT voce della band melodic black/death metal by Nuclear Bl …
Hi MT and welcome to Tuttorock!
We’re here to talk about you and your band The Spirit that just debuted with a full-lenght for Nuclear Blast titled.
“Sounds From The Vortex”. How did you make your debut with such a prestigious label? How did you introduce yourself to them?
It never came to our mind that a big label like Nuclear Blast could be interested in us. That’s the reason we never sent them an application with the finished album back in 2017. A couple of months after we released “Sounds from the Vortex” through our own label, Eternal Echoes, they heard about us and it seems they liked our music a lot. They got in contact with us and that´s how it started. It´s a bit strange, first not a single label is interested and then we get signed by the biggest one on the market.
You trained in 2015, but when did the idea of setting up the band come about? First you were in other formations?
All members of The Spirit have played in other bands before, but that’s the past and not important. The idea to form this band has been there before, but I had to wait till I found a drummer and to find a proper drummer is extremely difficult. Even if you find someone talented, you have to be really lucky if the guy doesn’t play in 5 other bands…
I listened to the album: traces with beautiful riffs, very inspired, with aggressive and calmer moments. What are your sources of inspiration? Who writes music and lyrics?
Life itself gives more than enough inspiration for THE SPIRIT. Of course, in our case it´s more the dark and negative parts of life. I write the songs alone at home and when the song is done, I send it to our drummer and we meet in the rehearsal room to work out the drums. When this is done, the other two guys join us.
Why did you choose the name The Spirit for the band and why do you call everyone with a nickname?
The name just suits the band and the music. When you listen to our songs you notice that it fits together just perfectly. In addition, it’s always better to have a name that you can remember easily and that is not too complicated. For us it´s just not important to have our names in the booklet, who cares about it anyway? The only name that matters is on top of the album and that´s THE SPIRIT.
The artwork is very nice and beautiful, who cares?
The artwork for the re-release was created by Costin Chioreanu. Costin is very well known for his artworks and he has a unique style. We just gave him the rough idea how it should look like and gave him as much creative freedom as possible.
You are on tour from August and on 27 October you will be in Milan at the Live Music Club, do you like the live dimension?
Playing live is very important for us and our shows consist of energy and emotions transformed into dark sounds. We played just a handful of shows since we founded the band back in 2015, so we are really looking forward to the upcoming tour, where we will unleash the “Sounds from the Vortex” every night.
Thanks MT for the time you dedicated to me!
Thank you for the interview and we hope to see you in Milan!
I really hope to be there! Thank you!
