ORIANTHI – Intervista alla chitarrista e cantante australiana
Orianthi Panagaris, per tutti Orianthi, è una chitarrista e cantante australiana, celebre per esser stata la chitarrista di Michael Jackson e di Alice Cooper, due mondi lontani, ma lei li fa convivere bene anche nelle sue canzoni. E’ uscito da poco il suo primo album live, “Live Fron Hollywood” (qui la recensione), dove la cantante accontenta i fan con una scaletta scelta su richieste su instagram e mette in risalto tutto il suo talento come cantante, chitarrista e compositrice. Un’intervista breve e veloce perché Orianthi era impegnata a completare il suo nuovo album in studio in uscita a metà ottobre, quindi dopo una manciata di giorni dalla pubblicazione di questa intervista.
Ciao Orianthi e benvenuta su Tuttorock. Ti chiedo subito perché la decisione di fare un album dal vivo?
Era qualcosa che è programmato da tempo e ho pensato che sarebbe stato bello farlo poiché non l’avevo mai fatto prima. Le riprese a Hollywood con un gruppo di fan molto fedeli e una band e ospiti fantastici: Michael Bearden, Glen Sobel, Nick Maybury e Carmen Vandenberg e Justin Andreas.
Perché hai scelto quei brani?
I brani sono stati scelti dai fan online, come ho chiesto su Instagram e sulle altre mie pagine social. È stato bello farlo.
Come e perché hai iniziato ad amare e suonare la chitarra?Ho iniziato a 6 anni e da allora ne sono dipendente grazie a mio padre!
Ma sei anche un cantante molto brava, quindi sei più chitarrista o cantante?
Grazie mille! Ho iniziato a cantare prima di iniziare a suonare la chitarra, ma amo fare entrambe le cose.. prima di iniziare a suonare la chitarra elettrica mi concentravo molto sulla scrittura di canzoni.
Allora, quali sono quindi le tue influenze musicali?
Carlos Santana, Jimi Hendrix Fleetwood Mac, B.B.King, Bonnie Raitt Elvis Presley, The Beatles, Steve Vai, Eric Clapton…
Ci sarà un seguito al progetto RSO con Richie Sambora?
Richie ed io siamo sulla nostra strada ora, sono orgogliosa della musica che abbiamo creato con il progetto RSO.
Le tue esperienze con Michael Jackson e Alice Cooper? Hai qualcosa da dire?
Sono state esperienze incredibili e sono onorata e grata di aver passato del tempo con loro!
Con chi vorresti condividere il palco?
Eric Clapton, Keith Urban.
Sei molto attiva sui social media, quanto sono importanti per te oggi? Una volta che non servivano e non c’erano, bastava la grande energia e passione che aveva un musicista e tu hai tanta energia e passione. Perchè così tanta importanza sui social?
Dobbiamo adattarci tutti perché ora è così! Alla gente piace vedere dietro la porta e l’aspetto misterioso è un po’ portato via, ma le mie pagine sono piuttosto eccentriche, quindi per quanto faccio sapere alla gente di me, tengo anche le cose per me molto. È importante. Non pubblico con chi esco tutto il tempo, con chi ho un appuntamento ecc. Non è salutare per le persone sapere tutto.
Il tuo nuovo album in studio uscirà in autunno, puoi dirci qualcosa?
Sono entusiasta di pubblicare nuova musica… è passato un po’ di tempo! È stato realizzato in 12 giorni con il mio bravo amico Jacob Bunton ed è un’atmosfera divertente!
In questo live suoni con grande energia, forse non hai mai suonato così hard rock, dove trovi tutta questa energia?
4 tazze di caffè lo fanno haha!! Ma quando sono sul palco è fantastico perdersi in un buon modo con grandi musicisti e buttare giù tutto.

Hi Orianthi and welcome to Tuttorock. I immediately ask you why the decision to take a live album?
It was something that was brought up by frontiers and I thought it would be cool to do it since I haven’t before. Filming in Hollywood with a bunch of very loyal fans and a amazing band and guests – Michael Bearden , Glen Sobel, nick maybury and Carmen Vandenberg and Justin Andreas .
Why did you choose that data?
The tunes chosen where by fans online as I asked on Instagram and my other socials pages. It was cool to do that .
How and why did you start to love the guitar?
I started when I was 6 and I’ve been addicted ever since thanks to my dad!
But you are also a very good singer, so are you more guitarist or singer?
Thank you so much. ! I started singing before I started playing guitar but I love to do both ..before I started playing electric guitar I was focused on songwriting a lot .

Will there be a follow-up to the RSO project with Richie Sambora?
Richie and I are on our own paths now , I’m proud of the music we created with the RSO project .
Your experiences with Michael Jackson and Alice Cooper? Do you have something to tell?
They were incredible experiences and I’m honored and grateful I had that time with them!
Who would you like to share the stage with?
Eric Clapton, Keith Urban.
You are very active on social media, how important are they for you today? Once they weren’t needed, the great energy and passion that a musician had was enough and you have a lot of energy and passion. Does he lose so much importance to the social?
We all have to adapt to it as that’s the way now! People like to see behind the door and the mysterious aspect is kinda taken away but my pages are quite eccentric so as much as I let people know about me I do keep things to myself a lot too . It’s important. I don’t post who I’m hanging out with all the time , who I am on a date with ect it’s not healthy for people to know everything.
Your new studio album is out in the fall, can you tell us something?
I’m excited to put new music out .. it’s been a while ! It was made in 12 days with my talent good friend Jacob Bunton and it’s a fun vibe!
In this live you play with great energy, perhaps you have never played so hard rock, Where do you find all this energy?
4 cups of coffee will do it haha!! But when I’m onstage it’s great to get lost in a good way with Great musicians and just lay it all down.
