LI-SA-X GUITAR – Intervista alla giovanissima chitarrista giapponese
Li-sa-X è una giovanissima chitarrista giapponese che da poco ha formato le Koiai, trio femminile che la vede in compagnia di un’altra chitarrista Hazuki e della cantante Kotono. Paul Gilbert l’ha influenzata e lo stesso chitarrista statunitense è stato il suo insegnante. Un talento chitarristico tuto da scoprire ed ho avuto modo di intervistarla. Di seguito l’intervista.
Ciao Lisa e benvenuta su Tuttorock. Presentati ai nostri lettori, come è nato il tuo amore per la musica e la chitarra?
Salve lettori di Tuttorock, sono Li-sa-X. Ora ho 17 anni, ma ne compirò 18 tra pochi giorni. Avevo una chitarra a casa sin da quando ero una bambina, e mi sono naturalmente interessata alla chitarra e alla musica quando ho visto mio padre suonare la chitarra felicemente.
Chi sono i musicisti, i chitarristi e le band che ti hanno maggiormente influenzato?
Paul Gilbert!! Ho caricato una cover di “Scarified” dei Racer X su YouTube quando avevo 8 anni. Qualche tempo dopo, Paul Gilbert mi ha contattato direttamente e mi ha detto: “Ti piacerebbe seguire le mie lezioni?” Da allora ho preso lezioni da lui.
Come sei arrivato a livelli tecnico strumentali molto alti? Molto studio?
È importante esercitarsi molto, ma penso che sia più importante guardare, ascoltare e studiare lo stile dei m migliori chitarristi.
Sei una chitarrista molto giovane ma già molto preparata tecnicamente, che consiglio daresti a un giovane chitarrista? Cosa è importante per diventare una vera guitar hero?
Sono onorata di sentirtelo dire. Non lavorare troppo (per evitare infortuni), goditi la musica e trova il “tono” che solo tu puoi esprimere.
Ti definisci una guitar hero?
Alcune persone dicono che sono una guitar hero, ma continuo a non considerarmi una guitar hero. Un vero guitar hero può suonare per pochi secondi e far riconoscere alle persone chi è.
Parlami dei tuoi progetti, come Li-Sa-X hai pubblicato alcuni singoli e un album “Will”. Stai preparando un nuovo album?
No. Come chitarrista solista, ora registro e mi esibisco principalmente dal vivo come musicista ospite per altri. Sono più concentrato a sulle nuove attività della band.
“Will” era totalmente strumentale, canzoni molto heavy metal ma anche fusion e molto melodiche, sono questi i vari stili musicali che suoni o ci saranno delle sorprese in futuro?
Non sono una ragazzo che rispetta un genere. Mentre è vero che ci sono molti stili musicali diversi, vedo la musica nel quadro generale come una cosa sola.
Hai anche pubblicato qualcosa come Li-sa-X Band, ma con un cantante e per quanto ne so la band non esiste più perché?
Li-sa-X BAND si è sciolta perché la direzione e il ritmo delle attività con la cantante Rina non corrispondevano più.
Ora parlami della tua nuova band Koiai, siete un trio, presentami la band e le altre ragazze della band.
KOIAI è un nuovissimo progetto di band che è ripartito con una nuova cantante ”
Kotono quando si era scolta la Li-sa-X BAND. Kotono è una persona di talento che una volta era un ballerina di supporto in una certa band di fama mondiale. Hazuki, l’altra chitarrista, è un amica di vecchia data. È anche la chitarrista della band Nemophila.
Qual è il significato del nome Koiai?
Originariamente significa “indaco scuro”, ma con la stessa pronuncia giapponese può significare anche “profondo affetto”. Ci è piaciuto il suono di questa parola, che può essere interpretata in molti modi ed è molto giapponese.
Qual è il genere musicale della band?
Categoricamente, è musica rock, con alcuni elementi più semplici e più ballabili di Li-sa-X BAND.
Nel 2023 cosa pubblicherà Li-sa-X?
Innanzitutto, spero di pubblicare l’EP di debutto dei KOIAI in primavera.
Hai altre passioni oltre alla musica?
Io amo il mio cane.
Cosa sai dell’Italia?
Sto firmando con DV MARK, un marchio italiano di amplificatori. Quindi mi sento molto vicino all’Italia! Inoltre, amo la pasta e il cibo italiano, quindi un giorno mi piacerebbe andare in Italia e mangiare del vero cibo italiano.
Se ne sono andati due grandi chitarristi, Eddie Van Halen e Jeff Beck, cosa ne pensi di loro?
Sono entrambi grandi chitarristi. Credo che la musica abbia due aspetti: creare nuove evoluzioni e allo stesso tempo ereditare la grande musica del passato, e questi due aspetti non sono affatto contraddittori. Non ho bisogno di dirvi i grandi traguardi che entrambi hanno lasciato nella musica rock, ma spero di poter capire i loro traguardi a modo mio e trasmetterli in un modo nuovo.
Quanto conta per te suonare dal vivo?
Le esibizioni dal vivo sono molto importanti per me. È letteralmente il momento in cui la musica respira e ci connette con il nostro pubblico.

Hi Lisa and welcome to Tuttorock. Introduce yourself to our readers, how did your love for music and guitar come about?
Hello Tuttorock readers, this is Li-sa-X. I am 17 now, but will turn 18 in a few days. I had a guitar at home since I was a little girl, and I naturally became interested in guitar and music when I saw my dad playing the guitar happily.
Who are the musicians, guitarists and bands that have influenced you the most?
Paul Gilbert!! I uploaded a cover of Racer X’s “Scarified” to YouTube when I was 8 years old. A while later, Paul Gilbert contacted me directly and said, “Would you like to take my lessons?” I have been taking lessons from him ever since.
How did you arrive at very high instrumental technical levels? Much study?
It’s important to practice a lot, but I think it’s more important to watch, listen and study the game than good players.
You are a very young guitarist but already very technically prepared, what advice would you give to a young guitarist? What is important to become a true guitar hero?
I am honored to hear you say that. Don’t work too hard (to avoid injury), enjoy the music and find the “tone” that only you can express.
Do you define yourself as a guitar hero?
Some people say I’m a guitar hero, but I still don’t consider myself a guitar hero. A true guitar hero can play for seconds and make people know who he is.
Tell me about your projects, like Li-Sa-X has released some singles and an album “Will”. Are you preparing a new album?
No I’m not. As a lead guitarist, I now mainly record and perform live as a guest musician for others. I’m more focused on the band’s new activities.
“Will” was totally instrumental, very heavy metal songs but also fusion and very melodic, are these the various musical styles you play or will there be surprises in the future?
I’m not a kind guy. While it’s true that there are many different styles of music, I see music in the big picture as one.
You also released something like Li-sa-X Band, but with a singer and as far as I know the band doesn’t exist anymore why?
Li-sa-X BAND disbanded because the direction and pace of activities with singer Rina no longer matched.
Now tell me about your new band Koiai, you are a trio, introduce me to the band and the other girls of the band.
KOIAI is a brand new band project that restarted with a new singer “Kotono” in the disbanded Li-sa-X BAND. Singer Kotono is a talented person who was once a backing dancer in a certain world-famous band. Hazuki, the other guitarist, is an old friend. He is also the guitarist of the band “Nemophila”.
What is the meaning of the name Koiai?
It originally means “dark indigo”, but with the same Japanese pronunciation it can also mean “deep affection”. We liked the sound of this word, which can be interpreted in many ways and is very Japanese.
What is the musical genre of the band?
Categorically, it’s rock music, with some simpler and more danceable elements than Li-sa-X BAND.
What will Li-sa-X release in 2023?
First, I hope to release KOIAI’s debut EP in the spring.
Do you have other passions besides music?
I love my dog.
What do you know about Italy?
I’m signing with DV MARK, an Italian amplifier brand. So I feel very close to Italy Also, I love pasta and Italian food, so I would like to go to Italy someday and eat real Italian food.
Two great guitarists are gone, Eddie Van Halen and Jeff Beck, what do you think of them?
They are both great players that I have covered. I believe that music has two aspects: creating new evolutions and at the same time inheriting the great music of the past, and these two aspects are by no means contradictory. I don’t need to tell you the great achievements they both left behind in rock music, but I hope I can understand their achievements in my own way and convey them in a new way.
How important is playing live for you?
Live performances are very important to me. It’s literally where the music breathes and we connect with our audience.
