BACK-ON – Intervista alla crossover rock/metal band giapponese
Da noi sono poco conosciuti i Back-On, ma in Giappone spopolano e sono molto apprezzati sia da un pubblico metal e rock sia da chi preferisce sonorità più pop. Hanno però 15 anni di attività e li celebrano con un doppio cd in cui rivisitano i loro brani. Di seguito l’intervista.
Ciao e benvenuti in Italia! Potete presentare i BACK-ON ai lettori italiani?
Ciao ragazzi, siamo i BACK-ON! Grazie per l’intervista! Siamo Mc TEEDA e il nostro chitarrista e cantante KENJI03. Celebriamo il 15 ° anniversario del nostro debutto su una major con il nostro nuovo album “FLIP SOUND”, è una raccolta in 2CD delle nostre canzoni degli ultimi 15 anni ri-registrate, così come una raccolta di 3 dei nostri ultimi EP disponibili su CD per la prima volta. Uscirà in CD in Italia dal 30 aprile, ma puoi ascoltarlo in streaming ora!
Festeggiate il vostro 15 ° anniversario, un ottimo traguardo. Siete soddisfatto dei risultati avuti finora?
Il tempo vola … Non possiamo credere che siano passati 15 anni. Vogliamo solo dire grazie a tutto lo staff e ai fan per il supporto nel corso degli anni!
Perché avete deciso di registrare nuovamente le canzoni per “FLIP SOUND”?
Volevamo provare a rifare le canzoni con un nuovo suono per le nostre esibizioni dal vivo, per i nostri fan e per noi stessi.
Il sound dei Back-On è vero crossover, hard rock, alternative metal, rap. Come definite voi il vostro sound? Avete sicuramente delle influenze musicali!
Pensiamo di essere stati principalmente influenzati dalla musica degli anni ’90 e 2000, come il pop, l’hip-hop e il rock. Siamo grandi fan di Snoop Dogg, Nas, Lauryn Hill, Oasis, The Smashing Pumpkins, Limp Bizkit e Linkin Park.
C’è un messaggio nei vostri testi?
La maggior parte delle nostre canzoni ha un messaggio positivo, incoraggiando le persone a spingersi oltre e provare nuove esperienze.
“FLIP SOUND” contiene canzoni del passato della band. Possiamo aspettarci presto del nuovo materiale?
Si, certo! Stiamo producendo nuove canzoni in questo momento e pensiamo che pubblicheremo due nuovi album quest’anno.
Come state vivendo l’emergenza covid in Giappone?
La musica è pesantemente penalizzata in Europa … Il numero di persone infette sta diminuendo in Giappone. ma dobbiamo ancora stare molto attenti, quindi continuiamo a fare nuova musica dalle nostre case … non vediamo l’ora di poter suonare di nuovo dal vivo presto!
Siete molto popolari in Giappone, avete avuto esperienze anche in Europa e nel resto del mondo?
Alcuni anni fa abbiamo suonato in Germania, Francia e Paesi Bassi. E’ stato davvero fantastico e la nostra esibizione in Francia ha avuto un enorme pubblico venuto a trovarci, così tante persone sono venute che a molti è stato rifiutato l’ingresso! Ero davvero felice di vedere che eravamo entrati in contatto con così tante persone, ma ero in ritardo per lo spettacolo a causa del jet lag, ero fuori dal locale ed ero preoccupato “Dannazione !! Comincerà presto e devo entrare “, e le persone in coda dicevano “Ehi !! Devi fare la fila come tutti noi! Vai in fondo alla fila ” hahaha. Non lo dimenticherò mai!
Ahahahha!! Immagino la scena! Chiudete l’intervista come volete, un messaggio per il pubblico italiano!

I’m Mc TEEDA and our guitarist and vocalist to KENJI03.
We’re celebrating the 15th anniversary of our major label debut with our new album FLIP SOUND, it’s a 2CD collection of our songs from the past 15-years re-recorded, as well as a collection of 3 of our newest EPs available on CD for the first time. It will be out on CD in Italy from 30 April, but you can stream it now!
You are celebrating your 15th anniversary, an excellent goal. How do you feel about your achievements so far?
Time flies… We can’t believe that 15 years haves passed. We just wanna say thank you to all staff and fans for the support through the years!
Why did you decide to re-record your songs for FLIP SOUND?
We wanted to try remaking the songs with a new sound for our live performances, for our fans, and for ourselves.
Your sound is a real crossover, Hard Rock, alternative metal, rap. But how do you define your sound? What are the influences that go into your music?
We think We were mainly influenced by music from the 90s and 2000s, such as pop, hip-hop and rock. We’re big fans of Snoop Dogg, Nas, Lauryn Hill, Oasis, The Smashing Pumpkins, Limp Bizkit and LINKIN PARK.
What kind of things does BACK-ON usually sing about? Is there a lyric that is your favourite?
Most of our songs have a positive message, cheering on people to push themselves and try new experiences.
FLIP SOUND has songs from your past. Can we expect from new material soon?
Yeah of course! We are making new songs right now, and we think we’re gonna release two new albums this year.
How are you experiencing the covid emergency in Japan? Music is heavily penalized in Europe…
The number of infected people is decreasing in Japan. but we can’t be too careful yet, so we continue to make new music from our homes… looking forward to being able to play live again sometime soon!
You are very popular in Japan, have you also had experiences in Europe and the rest of the world? Can you tell us about some of your shows overseas? Have there been any funny things happening while overseas?
We’ve played shows in Germany, France and the Netherlands a few years ago. it was really awesome and our performance in France had a huge audience come to see us, so many people came that many were refused entry! I was really happy to see that we had connected with so many people, but I was running late to the show because of jet lag, I was outside the venue like “Damn!! It’s gonna start soon and I need to get inside”, and people in the queue were like “Hey!! You gotta queue up like the rest of us! Go to the back of the line” hahaha.
