ANGSTSKRÍG – Il duo black ‘n’ roll danese parla dell’album “ …
In occasione dell’uscita dell’album di debutto “Skyggespil”, in programma per venerdì 28 maggio su etichetta Despotz Records, ho avuto il piacere di intervistare gli Angstskríg, enigmatico duo danese black ‘n’ roll.
Ciao ragazzi, benvenuti su Tuttorock, come state?
Grazie mille Marco (In italiano – ndr). Stiamo bene, grazie. Tu come stai?
Bene, grazie! Il vostro album di debutto, Skyggespil, uscirà il 28 maggio su etichetta Despotz Records, quando avete scritto le 6 canzoni?
Abbiamo scritto i brani tra agosto e settembre 2019 e siamo andati in studio ad ottobre.
I vostri brani provengono da un riff, da un’improvvisazione in sala prove o da cosa?
La nostra musica è molto basata sui riff, quindi di solito ne scriviamo e ne registriamo una serie nel nostro home studio. Poi ci incontriamo e sperimentiamo in sala prove.
Mi sono piaciute tutte le canzoni ma se dovessi sceglierne una direi “Uhygge”, voi quale pensate sia la più rappresentativa dell’album?
È fantastico per noi sentire ciò. Ed è molto interessante il fatto che “Uhygge” sia la tua preferita, è stata una canzone divertente da comporre. “Uhygge” è rappresentativa, nel senso che ci piace fare le cose in modo diverso. Tuttavia, non pensiamo che una sola canzone rappresenti l’intero album, ogni brano porta qualcosa di nuovo in tavola ed è solo una parte del tutto.
Avete deciso di scrivere le canzoni in danese, avete intenzione di continuare così per il futuro o userete anche l’inglese?
Esprimerci nella nostra lingua madre è in qualche modo una cosa liberatoria. Tuttavia, il progetto Angstskríg è in continua evoluzione, quindi non possiamo escludere che in futuro creeremo canzoni in inglese.
Dove sono stati realizzati i due video?
L’intero video di “Lucifer Kalder” è stato girato a Stevns Klint a sud di Copenaghen. È un luogo affascinante, che ha una forte connessione con l’estinzione di massa del Cretaceo-Paleogene di 66 milioni di anni fa dovuta ad un asteroide. La parte invernale del video di “Skyggespil” è stata girata su un lago ghiacciato ad Hareskoven, appena a nord di Copenaghen, la parte primaverile a Tisvilde Hegn. Per entrambi i video Daniel Buchwald ha realizzato tutte le riprese e il montaggio tranne il filmato con il drone in “Skyggespil”, che è stata fatta dai nostri amici di OpenHouse. Ovviamente hanno fatto un ottimo lavoro.
Frédéric Leclércq e Attila Vörös sono due degli ospiti che avete avuto, perché avete scelto loro?
Perché sono nostri amici e sono entrambi chitarristi di grande talento. Alcune delle canzoni sono state composte prevedendo degli assoli e noi non siamo in grado di suonare un assolo, quindi abbiamo chiamato gli amici, che hanno fatto un assolo strabiliante dopo l’altro. Oltre a Fred e Attila, anche Sylvain Coudret, Mathias Lillmåns e Tomas Elofsson hanno suonato. Siamo immensamente grati per tutti i loro contributi, hanno portato l’album ad un altro livello.
Quando vi siete conosciuti e quando avete deciso di formare gli Angstskríg?
“Angstskríg” è una bella parola autocostruita, significa “urlo di angoscia”. Ci siamo conosciuti anni fa, siamo cresciuti insieme, abbiamo scritto le nostre prime canzoni insieme, poi ci siamo separati creativamente per circa un decennio prima di decidere di unire le forze ancora una volta nell’estate del 2019.
Perché avete deciso di restare anonimi e di non rivelare le vostre identità?
È come pensiamo che sia la nostra musica. Siamo semplicemente incarnazioni della musica. In altre parole, la musica determina l’aspetto.
In Italia arriva molta musica dalla Scandinavia, soprattutto da Svezia, Norvegia e Finlandia, com’è la situazione in Danimarca?
Quando si parla di musica metal, la Danimarca è sempre stata il fratello minore rispetto agli altri paesi nordici. Tuttavia, la scena metal danese non è mai stata più viva e fiorente di quanto non sia adesso. In effetti, al momento abbiamo una delle scene metal underground più interessanti d’Europa. Quindi è questo il momento giusto per la musica metal danese per competere con Svezia, Norvegia e Finlandia. Vediamo se ci riusciremo.
Avete già pensato a come saranno i vostri concerti e, in caso affermativo, avete già degli show in programma?
Sì, attualmente stiamo preparando e allestendo la nostra produzione live per un piccolo tour in giro per la Danimarca in autunno. Quindi, si spera, nel 2022 potremo iniziare a fare tournée a livello internazionale. Aspettatevi qualcosa di diverso da un normale spettacolo rock n ‘roll.

On the occasion of the release of the debut album “Skyggespil”, scheduled for Friday 28 May on the Despotz Records label, I had the pleasure of interviewing Angstskríg, an enigmatic Danish black ‘n’ roll duo.
Hi guys, welcome to Tuttorock, how are you?
Grazie mille Marco. We are well, thank you. How are you?
I’m fine thanx! Your debut album, Skyggespil, will be released on May 28th on Despotz Records label, when did you write the 6 songs?
We wrote the songs in August and September 2019 and went into the studio in October.
Do your songs come from a riff, from an improvisation in the rehearsal room or how?
Our music is very riff-based. So we usually write and record a series of riffs at our home studio. Then we meet up and experiment with the riffs and the composition in the rehearsal room.
I enjoyed all the songs but if I had to choose one that I prefer is “Uhygge”, which do you think is the most representative?
That’s amazing to hear. And very interesting that “Uhygge” is your favorite. That was a fun song to compose. ”Uhygge” is representative in the sense that we like to do things differently. However, we don’t think that one song alone captures the whole album. Each song brings something new to the table and is merely a part of the whole.
You decided to write the songs in Danish, do you plan to continue like this for the future or will you also use English?
To express ourselves in our native tongue is somewhat liberating. Yet, Angstskríg is constantly evolving, so we can’t rule out that we will make songs in English in the future.
Where were the two videos made?
The whole video for ‘Lucifer Kalder’ was shot at Stevns Klint south of Copenhagen. It is a fascinating place, which holds a strong argument for the Cretaceous–Paleogene mass extinction 66 mio. years ago was due to an asteroid. The winter part of the ‘Skyggespil’ video was shot on a frozen lake in Hareskoven just north of Copenhagen. The spring part at Tisvilde Hegn. For both videos Daniel Buchwald did all the filming and editing except the drone footage in ‘Skyggespil’, which our friends in OpenHouse did. They obviously did an amazing job.
Frédéric Leclércq and Attila Vörös are two of the guests you had, why did you choose them?
Because they are our friends, and they are both extremely talented guitar players. Some of the songs were composed for solos, and we can’t play a solo, if our lives depended on it, so we called up over friends, who did one mind-blowing solo after another. Besides Fred and Attila, Sylvain Coudret, Mathias Lillmåns and Tomas Elofsson also did features. We are immensely grateful for all their contributions. They took the album to another level.
When did you meet and when did you decide to form Angstskríg?
‘Angstskríg’ is a cool self-constructed word. It means “scream of angst”. Anyway, we met years ago. We grew up together. We wrote our very first songs together. But then we went our separate ways creatively for about a decade before deciding to join forces once more in the summer of 2019.
Why did you decide to remain anonymous and not reveal your identities?
This is how we think our music looks. We are merely embodiments of the music. In other words, the music dictates the appearance.
In Italy comes a lot of music from Scandinavia, especially from Sweden, Norway and Finland, how is the situation in Denmark?
When it comes to metal music, Denmark has always been the little brother compared to the other Nordic countries. However, the Danish metal scene has never been more alive and blooming than it is right now. In fact, we have one of the most interesting underground metal scenes in Europe at the moment. So the time is now, if Danish metal music wants to compete with Sweden, Norway and Finland. Let’s see, if we succeed.
Have you already thought about how your concerts will be like and, if so, do you already have any shows planned?
Yes, we are currently preparing and building our live production for a small tour around Denmark in autumn. Then, hopefully, sometime in 2022 we can start touring internationally. However, expect something different than the regular rock n’ roll show.
