La seconda data italiana del Tour Europeo “We are the fire” si è combattuta a suon di metallo nella cornice del Live 23 di Bosco Marengo, dove il virtuosismo unito alla passione bruciante per la musica ha vinto sotto ogni profilo.
Dimenticate qualsiasi cosa avete ascoltato fino ad ora, piazzatelo in un angolo della soffitta e lasciatelo lassù… non avrete mai ascoltato qualcosa di così pulito ed elegante in moltissimi anni, fidatevi! Stò parlando di Mozart? Forse! Perché questo metal non ha nulla da invidiare alla musica classica!
Marco Angelo, due album prodotti, noto come “The Hooded Guitar”, compare silenziosamente sul palco intorno alle ore 22, catalizzando immediatamente l’attenzione dei presenti con i suoi solo di chitarra da brividi. Pulito, elegante, oserei dire minimalista nel regalarci un’atmosfera metal raffinata e senza sbavature. Si avvicenda il prog-trash degli Anticlockwise, band bergamasca con 10 anni di attività alle spalle, un album ‘Carry the Fire’, che già dal titolo sembra perfettamente calzare l’atmosfera infuocata di questa magica serata.
Così come muse si apprestano ad accendere le fiaccole di un tempio marziale, in cui le chitarre di Martongelli e Gus G, faranno rivivere per una buona ora, la stessa epicità dell’Iliade Omerica.
La batteria di Daniele Gotti regala emozioni, ben armonizzate dalla chitarra di Pietro Baggi ed il basso di Michele Locatelli, a dar voce a liriche dense di pathos: Claudio Brembati, con i suoi toni forti e caldi a ricordare il blues.
Ispirato al romanzo “The Road”, il concept album portato in scena dagli Anticlockwise inizia con “Father”, per stemperarsi lungo le note di “Hunger for More” e “Pure Steps”, dopo la quale la band presenta un’anticipazione del nuovo album, con il brano “Rise Your Head”, una denuncia, un grido di appello verso l’inquinamento sociale ed umano causato dalle nuove tecnologie e dal loro uso smodato. Segue la favolosa ballad “Leaves falls no more”, in cui Baggi con i suoi riff regala emozioni destinate a restare impresse, dopo le quali ahimè, la band ci saluta deponendo la fiaccola con “Carry the fire”.
Ave Caesar, entrano gli Arthemis! Band italiana, evidenzio: veronese, e se non mi fossi spiegata abbastanza chiaramente, vi sottolineo: fanno impallidire i colleghi d’oltre manica ed oceano!!
Un muro d’eccellenza, di maestri certificati nella loro specialità, che non si impone sciorinando tecnica con superbia, ma vi mostra con passione e competenza, tutta l’ampiezza e gamma d’irrefrenabile bellezza che la musica può raggiungere.
Simpatici e solari, hanno calcato palchi esteri e si apprestano a percorrere km con il nuovo tour, che ad agosto li vedrà duellare con la storica band degli Angra e la chitarra di Kiko Loureiro.
Martongelli, che ho sempre sospettato fosse nato con la chitarra in mano, non delude neppure per un secondo, come Achille sfonda il muro con i suoi riff perfetti da ogni profilo, spalleggiato dal fenomenale artista del basso “JT” Terenziani, strumento che nella loro ritmica acquista un ruolo ancor più interessante. La batteria di Kekko e la carismatica voce di Fabio D, ineguagliabilmente completano uno show, che davvero non capita tutti i giorni di ascoltare! Passando da “Scars on Scars” a “Still Awake”, “Blood of Generations” ed “Home”, si arriva al fuoco degli Arthemis con “Electri-Fire”

Il concetto è piuttosto chiaro, brucia il palco, s’infiamma la platea, si prosegue con “We fight”, “7days” concludendo con “Vortex”, per congedarsi come eroi consacrati, che s’allontanano sul fiume ardendo tra le note di “Burn” cover dei mitici Deep Purple.
7 album alle spalle, registrati in studio ed 1 dal vivo, la garanzia di trovarsi di fronte ad una band solida era più che certa, di assistere invece ad uno spettacolo di questa potenza, degna della migliore definizione di “power” metal, era invece il sogno di Icaro.
Fantastici gli Arthemis e consiglio vivamente a chiunque non abbia ancora avuto l’occasione di ascoltarli, di farlo il più presto possibile!
Carichi ed esaltati si applaude l’ingresso degli headliner della serata: i Firewind.
Fondati e capitanati da Gus G nel 1998, si apprestano a concludere il tour europeo di “I am the fire”, primo solo album della neo chitarra di Ozzy Osbourne, che lo stesso Zakk Wylde, senza giri di parole ha definito “Fuckin’ awesome”.
Fenomeno della sinuosa 6 corde, fluido, elegante, incisivo, gli aggettivi possono continuare, contemplando anche la sua cordialità e gentilezza nel rapportarsi al pubblico, con la crew di persone del locale, press e chiunque altro. Gus G: è un numero 1 sotto ogni profilo!
Henning Basse, tedesco di nascita, storico front man dei Metalium, è la ruggente voce dei Firewind ed anima la performance live di “We are the fire”, trascinandoci all’interno di atmosfere metal/rock influenzate dagli anni ’80, adrenaliniche e melodiche, che scatenano l’audience, sotto i colpi dei riff inimmaginabili di Gus G. Ebbene si, Mr Black Sabbath, princes of darkness, al secolo Ozzy Osbourne, ha scelto con saggia cura il suo cavaliere nero, che reo di aver calcato palchi da stadio, profonde non meno energia e passione nel dedicare il suo talento a questa serata dai toni più raccolti. Non vi è confine tra il palco ed il pubblico, non vi è distanza di sicurezza, ma un’amalgama lavica di emozioni che si scambiano vicendevolmente, si percepiscono con l’anima e si toccano con mano.
È l’esaltazione della musica, di un mostro del virtuosismo, che sorride ai colleghi della band e non disdegna di farsi indietro, per non oscurarne l’arte con la sua ormai indiscussa fama planetaria. Imponente il rombo di tamburi di Johan Nunez (27 anni e diverse collaborazioni con band power metal, batterista ufficiale dei Firewind dal 2011) ben accarezzato dal basso di Strutter, che solo dall’aspetto trasuda del miglior rock ribelle. Attraverso “My Will Be Done” e la toccante “Eyes Wide Open”, si passa a “Blame It on Me”, “Vengeance”, “Break the Chains” per “ardere il mondo”, come direbbe Cecco Angiolieri, con “World on Fire”, scatenarne la furia con “The Fire and the Fury (Guitar solo)”, gettarlo nello sgomento dopo un’assolo di chitarra dalla delirante bellezza, a seguire il quale “Terrified”, “Redemption”, “Summer Days”, “Children of the Night” ed a concludere l’anima del nuovo album: “I Am the Fire”.
L’enfasi profusa nel mio live report, incontra la sincerità totale di una serata che è stata a dir poco memorabile, che ha unito e raccolto i consensi di “addetti” ai mestieri e semplici appassionati di musica. Vi lascio quindi con la gioia di aver avuto la fortuna e chance di assistere ad uno spettacolo di questo livello, in un contesto in cui artisti planetari, si sono concessi senza indugio al pubblico, lasciandosi avvicinare prima e dopo il concerto, con rara cordialità e gentilezza.
La riflessione finale, come ho scritto ad un amico oggi, resta la seguente: “ho molti amici che hanno ancora preconcetti sul metal, poi si ascolta questo sound e si comprende che quando passione e tecnica si incontrano…non è un “genere” musicale, ma la musica con la M maiuscola. Diventa classica, trascende il tempo ed è perfetta nella sua bellezza”.

Mozart is a metalhead!
The second date of the Italian European Tour “We are the fire”, to promote Gus G solo debut “I Am The fire”, was fought to the sound of metal in the frame of the Live 23 of Bosco Marengo, where the virtuosity combined with the burning passion for music, has won by every possible meaning. Forget everything you’ve heard so far, place it in a corner and leave it there … you will never have heard something so terrific and elegant in many years, trust me! I’m talking about Mozart? Maybe! Because this metal has nothing to envy to classic music!
Mark Angelo, two albums recorded, known as “The Hooded Guitar”, appears silently on stage around 22 o’clock, and immediately attracts the attention of the audience with his spine-chilling guitar solo. Clean, elegant, he portrays an almost minimalistic atmosphere with his vibrating and smudge metal. To follow, the prog-trash sounds of Anticlockwise, a band made in Bergamo with 10 years of activity on its back, and an album’ Carry the Fire ‘, which right by the title seems to perfectly fit the fiery atmosphere of this magical evening .
Like greek muses lighting the torches of a martial temple, AnticlockWise warm up the stage, where the guitar-heroes Gus G and Andy Martongelli, will make us feel the same incredible emotions of the Homeric epic Iliad, for over an hour. Daniele Gotti at the drums, is well-harmonized by Pietro Baggi’s guitar and Michele Locatelli’s bass, and melting with warm bluesy-tones of Claudio Brembati’s voice, the band shapes lyrics full of pathos.
Based on the novel “The Road”, the concept album played by Anticlockwise begins with “Father”, to fade on “Hunger for More” and “Pure Steps”, after which they present a preview of the new album, with the song “Rise Your Head”, that is a screaming complaint to the society, that the excessive use of new technologies has dramatically changed in worst. Follows the stunning ballad “Leaves falls no more”, and Baggi’s riffs leave an astonishing mark, after which, alas, the band greets us deposing the torch with “Carry the fire.”
Ave Caesar, the Arthemis are coming in! Italian band, precisely fromVerona, and if I have not been clear enough, let me emphasize it even more: they’ve got nothing to envy to their colleagues worldwide!!
A wall of excellence, of professionals certified in their specialty, which does not impose themselves parading their expertise and skills with pride, but show you with unique passion, the full breadth and range of irresistible beauty that music can reach. Friendly and nice, Arthemis’ guys have trod foreign stages, and are ready to ride miles with the new tour, which will see them in August duel with the historic band Angra and guitar-virtuoso Kiko Loureiro.
Martongelli, that I always suspected being born with his guitar in hand, does not disappoint the audience even for a second, like Achilles breaks through the wall with his amazing riffs.
He’s perfect by every point of view, backed by the phenomenal artist of the bass “JT” Terenziani, an instrument that in Arthemis’ rhythmic acquires an even more interesting role, and depth of sound. The drummer Kekko and charismatic voice of Fabio D, complete a terrific show, that rarely happens to listen to! Going from “Scars on Scars” to “Still Awake”, “Blood of Generations” and “Home”, we reach the core of Arthemis’s fire with “Electri-Fire”

The concept is pretty clear, the stage sets on fire, and the audience gets inflamed! With no mercy, they keep pushing forward the challenge by playing “We fight,” “7days” ending with “Vortex”, and finally like consecrated heroes on their blazed boats, by hitting the legendary Deep Purple’s “Burn”, they take leave.
7 albums produced in studio, and one live on stage, the guarantee of being in front of a solid band was more than certain, but to be attending a performance of this quality and level, worth of the best definition of “power” metal, was instead the dream of Icarus. Arthemis are fantastic indeed, and I highly recommend them to anyone, who hasn’t had the opportunity to see them as yet! Excited, and well warmed up by such experience, we are ready to welcome the headliner of the evening: Firewind. Founded and lead by Gus G in 1998, Firewind are on the verge of ending the European tour of “I am the fire”, the first solo album of Ozzy Osbourne guitar hero, that Zakk Wylde himself defined: ”Fuckin ‘awesome”.
Phenomenon of the sinuous 6 strings, elegant, incisive, vibrating… adjectives can be added as much as you like, by also mentioning his kindness towards everyone from to the public, crew, press, and anyone else. Gus G: is a number 1 in every possible way! Henning Basse, by German birth, historic front man of “Metallium”, is the roaring voice of Firewind. He is the personification of “classic metal/rock” to me, and his amazing vocal style brings alive atmospheres of the 80s, well matching the adrenaline triggered off by riffs of uncanny beauty played by Gus G. Yes, Mr. Black Sabbath, prince of darkness, alias Ozzy Osbourne, has picked with wise care his black knight, that after having performed on well-famous venues, prestigious festivals, profounds no less passion, and energy in this gig, devoting his great talent to the whole audience. There is no boundary between the stage and the audience, there is no safe distance, but only an exchange of “lava” emotions, and feelings that the soul can perceive, and the heart can touch.
It’s music at its best, Gus G is a monster of virtuosity, his skills are out of this world!
He smiles to the band guys, and while enjoying through the whole gig, he often steps back in the most gentleman manner, to let everyone shine, and avoid overshadowing their art with his undisputed worldwide fame. Belgian drummer, Johan Nunez (27 years and several collaborations with power metal band, official member of Firewind since 2011) has strong over-the-edge skills, well-matched by Strutter’s bass, that just by the look of him oozes rock rebellion. Through “My Will Be Done” and the touching “Eyes Wide Open”, they switch to “Blame It on Me”, “Vengeance”, “Break the Chains”, and get ready “to set the world on fire” – as would probably comment the italian poet Cecco Angiolieri – with “World on Fire “, unleash the fury with” The Fire and the Fury (Guitar solo), throw it in dismay after a solo guitar of pyrotechnic and delirious beauty, following which” Terrified “,” Redemption “,” Summer Days “, “Children of the Night” and to finish with the soul-core of the new album, the explosive: “I Am the Fire.”
By gifting us with a jam inspired by Led Zeppelin’s “Whole Lotta Love”, Gus G – one of the three best guitars in the world (as the Japanese magazine Burrn! has defined him) – finally joins our national hero: the blond warrior Martongelli. Arthemis and Firewind are up on stage together, like thunders they design in our mind the image of a beautiful memory, that will never fade away. The mostly welcome tribute to Ozzy Osbourne to end the concert, taking us away aboard of “Crazy Train”.
I depicted this magical night with great emphasis, but do not be mistaken, it totally meets the sincerity of a concert that was just memorable, a gig that gathered the consensus of “music experts” and fans. The joy is the awareness of having witnessed a performance of this level, in a friendly atmosphere, where rock stars of worldwide fame, have greeted with rare kindness and warmth their audience before, and after the show.
The final consideration, is the following: “I have many friends who still have preconceptions about metal music, but if you listen to this sound, you understand that when passion meets skills… you are not just listening to music, but to music with capital “M”. The sound seems becoming classical, transcending the time, and reaching a form of perfection in its beauty. “
