GENESIS – BBC Broadcasts
“BBC Broadcasts” è una raccolta dei Genesis di materiale trasmesso alla BBC da una delle band britanniche più famose a livello internazionale e più amate sia del periodo Gabriel e Hackett e di quello più commerciale Collins. Curato dal tastierista e membro fondatore del gruppo Tony Banks e dal loro sound engineer e produttore di vecchia data Nick Davis. Ogni collezionista ed amante dei Genesis troverà in questa raccolta dei momenti molto interessanti, anche se alcune cose sono già apparse in altre edizioni ed in qualche bootleg. E’ uscito in varie edizioni, un cofanetto da 5 CD con 53 tracce e in vinile, triplo LP con 24 tracce.
Queste due raccolte rappresentano il meglio delle registrazioni del gruppo effettuate per la BBC tra il 1970 e il 1998 ed includono il contributo dei tre cantanti che si sono alternati nella band, Peter Gabriel, Phil Collins e Ray Wilson. Ci sono note bio-discografiche a cura di Michael Hann e corredato da un libretto di ben 40 pagine, Il primo CD racchiude registrazioni del periodo Gabriel ed emoziona riascoltare capolavori come “Musical Box”, “Watcher Of The Skies” e la meravigliosa ed immortale suite “Supper’s Ready”. Nei restanti 4 CD ci sono registrazioni del dopo Gabriel, esibizioni a Knebworth nel 1978 e nel 1992 e ancora Wembley 1987 e rarissime esibizioni con Ray Wilson alla voce.
Ma uno dei momenti più interessanti, oltre al primo CD con Peter Gabriel e Steve Hackett, è l’intero concerto al Lyceum Theatre di Londra del 1980 durante il Duke Tour, un concerto eccellente che esce finalmente in formato ufficiale. E’ emozionante riascoltare brani come “Squonk”, “Dance On A Volcano”, “Turn It On Again” e una particolare “Dance With The Moonlit Knight!” con Phil Collins alla voce. Il cofanetto in CD è in formato libro ed è sicuramente imperdibile per ogni fan della band.
