PALACE – Intervista al chitarrista, cantante e polistrumentista lituano/svedese Michael …

Michael Palace è un musicista, produttore e polistrumentista, ma principalmente cantante e chitarrista. Ne ho già parlato su queste pagine e recentemente per l’uscita del suo nuovo album “One 4 The Road” (leggi qui la recensione). Ho avuto l’opportunità di intervistarlo e di seguito il resoconto.

Ciao Michael e benvenuto su Tuttorock. Un altro album a tuo nome, “One 4 The Road”, qual è stato il processo compositivo delle varie canzoni?
Ho scritto tutte le canzoni in un periodo di due mesi. È stata la prima volta che ho scritto un intero album in una volta sola, ed è stato davvero divertente e ha aiutato l’album a sentirsi più connesso alla fine.

Il sound è sempre ispirato all’hard rock melodico e all’AOR, è sempre e sarà sempre nel tuo cuore e nelle tue preferenze?
Ho sempre l’hard rock melodico e l’AOR nel mio cuore, ma traggo molta ispirazione da altri generi musicali. Cerco sempre di introdurre alcune influenze nuove e insolite nel suono AOR solo per vedere cosa succede.

Il disegno della copertina è un po’ futuristico, perché?
L’auto volante ovviamente non ha bisogno di strade, quindi mi è piaciuto l’umorismo di vederla apparire in un album chiamato “One 4 The Road”. A parte questo, è molto retrofuturistico e penso che descriva abbastanza bene il sound dell’album.

Cosa significano il titolo e il testo dell’album?
Il significato di testi e titoli è pensato per essere trovato da ogni ascoltatore. Mi piace scrivere in un modo che i testi possano avere più significati e penso che capire il significato sia metà del divertimento di ascoltare le canzoni.

Sei un polistrumentista, suoni tutti gli strumenti, ma principalmente sei un chitarrista e cantante. Ma Michael Palace è nato cantante o chitarrista?
Non credo nemmeno di essere nato, perché sia ​​il canto che il suonare la chitarra hanno richiesto migliaia di ore di pratica. Tuttavia, la chitarra è stato il mio primo vero strumento.

Collabori a tanti progetti, come fai a gestire il tutto?
Ho impostato un programma per ogni giorno e pianificare il mio tempo con attenzione. Questo aiuta a trovare il tempo per tutto ed eliminare lo stress.

Le tue influenze musicali? Migliori band, cantanti e chitarristi?
Troppi per citarne qualcuno davvero. Penso che tu possa sentire molte delle influenze solo ascoltando la mia musica.

Hai altre passioni oltre alla musica?
Mi piace molto la progettazione grafica, la creazione di copertine di album e la progettazione di opuscoli, ecc., lo skateboard, l’arrampicata su roccia e i videogiochi.

I tuoi progetti futuri?
Ho appena finito di scrivere e produrre un album con un cantante molto talentuoso che debutterà molto presto! Si spera in un altro Palace nel prossimo futuro.

Sarai in tournée per promuovere l’album?
Nessun concerto in programma in questo momento.

Quindi i Palace sono una one man band, scrivi, suoni, canti, produci e arrangi?
Si, è corretto!

Hi Michael and welcome to Tuttorock. Another album in your name, “One 4 The Road”, what was the compositional process of the various songs?
I wrote all of the songs during a period of two months. It was the first time I wrote a whole album in one go, and it was both really fun and helped the album feel more connected in the end.

Is the sound always inspired by melodic hard rock and AOR, is it always and will always be in your heart and in your preferences?
I always have melodic hard rock and AOR in my heart, but I draw a lot of inspiration from other music genres. I always try to bring in some new and unusual influences into the AOR sound just to see what happens.

The cover design is a bit futuristic, why?
The flying car obviously doesn’t need any roads, so i enjoyed the humour of having it appear on an album called “one 4 the road”. Other than that, it’s very retrofuturistic and I think it describes the sound of the album pretty well.

What do the title and the lyrics of the album mean?
The meaning of lyrics and titles is intended for every listener to find for themselves. I like to write in a way that the lyrics can have multiple meanings and I think figuring out the meaning is half of the fun of listening to the songs.

You are a multi-instrumentalist, you play all the instruments, but mainly you are a guitarist and singer. But was Michael Palace born singer or guitarist?
I don’t think I was born either, because both singing and guitar playing have taken thousands of hours of practice. Guitar was my first real instrument however.

You collaborate on many projects, how do you manage to manage everything?
I set up a schedule for every day and plan my time carefully. This helps make time for everything and eliminate any stress.

Your musical influences? Best bands, singers and guitarists?
Too many to name any really. I think you can hear a lot of the influences just by listening to my music.

Do you have other passions besides music?
I really enjoy graphic design, making album art and designing booklets etc., skateboarding, rock climbing and playing video games.

Your future projects?
I just finished writing and producing an album with a very talented singer who will be debuting really soon! Hopefully some more Palace in the near future.

Will you be on tour promoting the album?
No gigs planned at this time.
